The project aims to reveal the meaning of school, at its origins - the matter of meeting and the place that makes it possible.
"Think of a man under a tree, talking to a few people about a realisation he had - a teacher. He did not know he was a teacher, and those who listened to him did not consider themselves pupils or students. They were just there and they liked the experience of being in the presence of one who had a realisation - a sense of order. This is the way it began." (Louis Kahn)
As we know, the first place known in the history, where people met and debate, is the Agora.
"The Agora for instance, was a place of happening, the Stoa. The stoa was made most marvelously. No partitions, just columns, just protection. Things grew in it. People met, meet there." (Louis Kahn)
The chosen site is located in Brasov, the city of one of the first romanian school, between the hystorical center and the Schei neighborhood, close to the remains of the old fortification wall.
The idea of the project is a sequence of places which can be understood as agoras. The school follows this principle of stacking the memory and the learning in order to clear itself toward the upper level. The column becomes a meeting place and is thought as a resting place, with things that place themselves nearby.
The ground floor is split in two by a row of pillars and walls: one side, the one that contains the artists studios is turned to their private garden and the other side, with the exhibition and shops is the public one, together with the plaza between the school and the old fortification wall. The first floor is a dense one, containing the classrooms and the library, and as one is ascending the school finds in the second floor the pseudo-agora, an open space with the reminiscence of the lower floors, which clears itself once you arrive at the last floor, which represents the true agora, the place meant for the project critiques and also acts as a place for the city's spectacles or balls. It is the noble chamber, the piano nobile of the house
